Pycnogenol®

Pycnogenol® is a branded extract of French maritime pine bark, Pinus pinaster, standardised to a fixed procyanidin content. The name is a registered trademark, and that is the point of it: an extract sold under it is made to one specification rather than varying with the bark it came from.

Standardisation is why it can be named on the pack at all. A bark extract bought by weight is not something a buyer can check; a fixed specification is.
